Why are Perfumes Reformulated?
The dreaded 'Raison de Reformulation'. Often met with scepticism and no short amount of emotional distress, here we elaborate on a few of the key reasons why perfumes are reformulated.
Perfumes are often reformulated for a variety of reasons, including:
Cost considerations: Perfume formulations can be expensive to produce, especially if they contain rare or exotic ingredients. When the cost of certain ingredients increases or if a company wants to reduce production costs, reformulation can help make the fragrance more affordable without sacrificing quality.
Ingredient availability: Natural ingredients used in perfumes, such as certain flowers or spices, can be affected by environmental and geopolitical factors that can impact their availability and cost. Reformulation may be necessary to adjust to changes in ingredient availability or to find suitable substitutes.
Changes in regulations: Regulatory bodies may change restrictions or limits on certain ingredients, leading to reformulation of the perfume. For example, some ingredients may be banned due to health or environmental concerns, or restrictions on the use of certain materials may be put in place.

Unfortunately for all the reasons mentioned above, many fragrance formulas will not remain permanent; alas like many things we cherish in this life...the only answer being to live in the moment or stock up on bottles :)
